Villagers Storm Kannauj Collectorate Alleging Mass Deletion of Votes, Accuse Booth Officer of Bias
Villagers from Kannauj’s Saurikh area reached the district collectorate alleging that nearly 250 votes were deliberately deleted from electoral rolls by a Booth Level Officer. The administration has assured an inquiry amid concerns over voter list manipulation and election integrity.
Led by a village head’s representative, the delegation accused the local Booth Level Officer (BLO) of deliberately deleting nearly 250 votes from the electoral rolls. According to the complainants, the removals were not accidental but carried out with intent to benefit rival political interests. They further alleged that while genuine voters were being struck off the list in their area, efforts were underway in nearby villages to unlawfully inflate voter numbers.
At the collectorate, the villagers submitted a written memorandum to district authorities, attaching copies of the voter lists that they claim were tampered with. The memorandum demanded an impartial and time-bound investigation into the matter, along with the immediate restoration of all legitimately deleted names to the electoral rolls.
District administration officials acknowledged receipt of the complaint and assured the delegation that the allegations would be examined thoroughly. They stated that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the inquiry, in accordance with election rules and administrative procedures.
The incident underscores the sensitivity of voter list management ahead of elections and highlights the growing scrutiny faced by election officials at the local level. As authorities move to investigate the claims, the outcome is likely to have broader implications for public trust in the electoral system and the accountability mechanisms meant to safeguard democratic participation.
